Vintage Panerai Depth Gauge

Let us take particular notice at Panerai. Prior to making wrist watches, Officine Panerai focused on making instrumentation controls and tools for the Italian Navy. Pictured here we visit a photo of the Original Panerai compass and depth gauge. You should note these products in addition to every original Panerai watch available were only accessible to the Italian Panerai company and weren't offered to everyone.

Beside watches in the Vintage, Pre-Vendome and Richemont era, some historic tools and instruments from Officine Panerai is going to be sold by Artcurial in Paris on Monday, December eighth. An uncommon illustration of a Vintage Panerai depth gauge, targeted to 50 meters, with Radiomir dial and also the typical whitened hand (depth indicators with Luminor include a transparent hand), shows up as LOT 18 at “Panerai only” (Artcurial purchase #2527).

The stainless steel case is matte gray covered, sized 70 x 90 mm. Historic Panerai instruments (screwed lugs) make use of the same 26 mm leather straps as individuals who have been installed on watches, treated for sea water use. The size of the strap was lengthy enough to put on the depth gauge within the diving suit. The bottom from the instrument is ergonomically formed and it has a brushed surface. It's fixed with 6 screws to the upper area of the case, just like compasses are built. The large dome (different versions between 24 mm and 27 mm is available) consists of Plexiglas.

If you take a detailed consider the dial of the instrument, it's possible to observe that it is packaged in exactly the same “sandwich method” compared to dials from the Vintage Panerai watches. The dial of the depth gauge has markers of 2.5 meter steps from surface to twenty meters, and 5 meter steps from 20 to 50 meters (maximum depth).

Another Vintage Panerai instrument expires available at Artcurial’s “Panerai only” auction in Paris. LOT 54 presents a “Luminor Panerai” depth gauge, targeted to 40 meters. The dial of the depth gauge, produced in exactly the same “sandwich style” as dials for watches, shows markers of 2.5 meter steps as much as 40 meters (maximum depth).

The meter hand consists of transparent Plexiglas, with a chamber in the tip, holding the luminous material to indicate the particular depth. The luminous material on hands, amounts, markers and dots continues to be responding very rapidly and vibrant whenever a source of light is beamed to the amounts and markers.
