The Speedmaster Professional includes a lasting appeal because of its straightforward design and reliable functionality like a mechanical chronograph, and it is still being produced today having a design that is (relatively) unchanged in the original models. The Professional designs of the Speedmaster include the greatest appeal, and therefore are constantly sought after by enthusiasts.
The older watches are always the more collectable watches. One older Speedmaster the 3590.50 Speedmaster Professional is one of them.
The 3590.50 is made between 1989 and 1996, and therefore the latest versions are nearly two decades old, barely putting them within the arena of “vintage” but which makes them a wonderful contemporary watch with classic vintage looks and yellowed lume. This watch is the last form of the watch to become fitted with luminescent markers produced from tritium around the dial and hands. All subsequent models get their luminescence from applied Superluminova indices.
The mechanicals from the 3590.50 are really robust, featuring exactly the same Calibre .861 by hand winding chronograph movement used since 1968.
When you’re thinking about a classic watch, compared to appearance are essential, and so far as I’m concerned nothing can beat the nice and cozy patina of the aged tritium dial. Superluminova will probably keep its luminescent qualities in perpetuity (whereas Tritium has only one half existence close to 12 years) and it is highly resistant against yellowing, and therefore the lume will stay crisp and whitened for well past my years, that is a look that simply doesn’t work with me visually.
Values around the 3590.50 will also be excellent, with higher good examples presently fetching only $2500-$3000 approximately. This watch is not exactly a vintage watch, it’s a newer vintage watch, with a vintage look. A great savings on the brand-new piece and provides a robust, modern example Speedmaster using the added bonus of the vintage looking dial.
